¡Experience a masterpiece silent film with music with an audience. Satisfaction guaranteed !

This week we’re diving into one of the greatest silent comedies of all time — The General, directed by and starring the legendary Buster Keaton. Released in 1926, this film showcases Keaton's signature blend of physical comedy, elaborate stunts, and deadpan humor, all set against the backdrop of the American Civil War.

The General follows Keaton’s character, Johnnie Gray, a train engineer who embarks on a daring mission to recover his stolen locomotive and rescue his love. With meticulously choreographed action sequences and jaw-dropping stunts—many performed by Keaton himself—this film is a triumph of early cinema, both technically and artistically.

Though underappreciated in its time, The General is now regarded as a masterpiece of silent film, blending comedy with action in a way that continues to influence filmmakers to this day. People tend to dismiss silent films as old and simple, bur silent reached perfection and this is a great example. Following the screening there will be a film analysis about silent films and discussion with independent filmmaker and scholar Elías Nahmías who has studied and worked in every aspect of filmmaking.
