2nd Avenue On Celluloid: Yiddish Film Festival
Presented in honor of Frederick Edell’s memory, a retired Canadian University Professor, and Professor Emeritus of Film and Theater. Original Yiddish movies starring famous Yiddish actors portraying Jewish immigrant life during the early 20th century. All films are in Yiddish with English subtitles.
“The Cantor’s Son” starring cantor, Yiddish nusical theater and Metropolitan star Moishe Oysher. The National Center for Jewish film writes, “This musical drama marks the screen debut of Moishe Oysher, in a film critic J. Hoberman calls an "anti-Jazz Singer." Oysher stars as a wayward youth who makes his way from his Polish shtetl to New York's Lower East Side where he is "discovered" and becomes a well-known singer.”
