In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day
GUT: The Story of a Holocaust Rescuer by Janet Rodgers has been rescheduled February 28, due to illness
GUT is a 50- minute solo performance, written and performed by Janet Rodgers. It tells the riveting true story of Irena Gut, a young Catholic Polish girl who risked everything to save countless Jewish lives during WW2. Adapted from Irena Gut Opdyke’s autobiography, In My Hands. It moves between narration, or prose and poetic form. Janet Rodgers’ GUT is a story of love, compassion, courage and hope in the face of fascist authoritarianism.
“Janet Rodgers plays Irena … and performs a magical feat, and we see nothing but Irena. It is as if Irena herself were telling us her story, and the exquisite performance by Rodgers with her grace, warmth and elegance brings us so deeply and vividly into Irena’s world I can think of no other way to experience it.” – NOHO Arts Theater Review at Los Angeles Whitefire Theater’s Solofest 2024.
“Irena’s incredible story is more relevant than ever before. One person really can change everything. Even if it is for just a few. A few is all we need sometimes to turn the tide of destruction and hate. I am so grateful to Janet Rodgers and her wonderful director Dan Ruth for sharing this important story and for creating this inspiring and beautiful show.” – NOHO Arts Theater Review at Los Angeles Whitefire Theater’s Solofest 2024.
