New weekly discussion group beginning at the JC3 June 18th! Also available on Zoom.
Our weekly Talmud learning group is morphing into a much more "user-friendly" and practical exploration of ethical, spiritual, and historical lessons from the Talmud and classical texts of Judaism. You can join the class at any time. There are no prerequisites . Each week we will be using Rabbi Joseph Telushkin's book Jewish Wisdom to choose the stand-alone topic of the week to stimulate our conversations on multiple topics, such as:
How to be a good person in a complicated world.
Helping the helpless: what are our obligations to society's most vulnerable members?
Mentsch--Nine challenges a good person must meet.
Honesty, dishonesty, and the "gray areas" in between
The ethics of speech
The infinite value of each human life.
Sex:the commanded, the permitted, the forbidden.
Judaism and abortion
Free will and human responsibility
Old age: anguish and opportunities
Is God necessary for morality?
Jews and God after the holocaust
This class (like all KSSMA - Conservative Congregation of San Miguel classes) will be free of charge for all members of CHESMA; non-members are requested to give a voluntary donation of 100 pesos/class.
