A discussion group founded by Ed Wohlrab with Arturo Kalfus is meeting these days in the comfort of the JC3 air-conditioned space. Each Tuesday a volunteer facilitator introduces a thought-provoking topic with the intention of generating respectful and illuminating conversation. Join us over cookies, coffee or tea to meet and connect with neighbors and friends. We do ask that participants avoid political topics. To date topics of discussion have included philosophical and sociological discussions of happiness, courage and giving back to our communities.
This week’s topic will be Humor led by Bea Aaronson.
Béa asks that you consider the following:
Humor is an existential necessity, a creative power to deal with any kind of adversity, and I mean “any kind of adversity.”
Humor transforms the victim into the executioner so to say, because humor renders the executioner powerless.
HUMOR IS A SURVIVAL ART FORM WE MUST INTEGRATE IN OUR LIVES.
In my presentation I hope to bring a smile or two on our faces, even laugh! With references to philosophers, authors, comedians, I will open up a whole dimension
I will invite you to share a moment of your life which presented some difficulty, and how humor helped you through it.
“Don’t take life so seriously, because anyways, you won’t get out of it alive!”
(18th century French philosopher Bernard de Fontenelle)
