PART 4: DADA AND SURREALIST THEATER IN WESTERN TRADITION

The beginnings of Dada correspond to the outbreak of World War I.
For many DADA participants, the movement was a protest

- against the bourgeois nationalist and colonialist interests,
which many Dadaists believed were the root cause of the war,
&
- against cultural and intellectual conformity

Dada Theater is ANTI THEATER

The Dada actor is an ANTI ACTOR

Dada rejects logic to embrace chaos and irrationality.

DADA’s subversive force and explosive rage
was fueled by HUMOR… a very important, powerful force
which destabilizes order, deflates and de-escalates tragedy.

Surrealist theater emanated from Dada and blossomed in

LE THÉÂTRE DE L’ABSURDE, The Theater of the Absurd, to allow us to share
THE EXPERIENCE OF REFUSAL!

Dada and surrealist theater DENOUNCE the universal incoherence,
the inanity of our existences, THE HORRORS that others do not want to see…
