Michael Alford presents readings and visuals on
“Degenerate” Art
Through the lens of "The Degenerate Saxophonist"
Michael will read excerpts from his intriguing book, “The Degenerate Saxophonist” and illustrate them with visuals from the New Objectivity School of art from Weimar and Nazi Germany.
“Berlin, Aug 1928: Walter Ganz, a shy, young saxophonist descends into the space under the stage of the Schiffbauerdamm Theatre before the show in which he is performing. In the dim light, he trips over a body — very much dead with a knife protruding from its chest. This event takes Walter from theatrical Berlin, to degenerate Munich, to the jazz clubs of Paris, and beyond. The story spans 42 tumultuous years in which Walter matures but is not convinced it is for the better.”
The account of the brilliant Walter Ganz is all compelling.
We look forward to seeing you at Michael’s presentation.
