From Aztec Legend to Diego Rivera to James Bond. A History of La Catrina as a Mexican Cultural Icon

Please join us for the history of ‘La Catrina’ as a Mexican Cultural Icon. David Black, who has been living in Mexico for 23 years, and is a student of Mexican history and culture, will present La Catrina’s emergence as the “First Lady of Day of the Dead.” The talk will discuss her first print appearance, and how she came to symbolize the Mexican holiday.

David Black has given presentations at La Biblioteca, and is generously donating the proceeds to the JC3.
