We invite you to join the Jewish Literary Circle, a vibrant and welcoming community of readers of books of Jewish interest. The unusual choice Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, about video game design, would not generally have been a first pick as a “Jewish book.” It made the cut, because this book is now on a widely distributed list of boycotted books for the sole reason that their authors or the content is “Zionist.” More details on this during our discussion in December…
This boycott does not seem to have hurt book sales, over one million sold globally, or regard for the book, which was named “One of the Best Books of the Year (2022) by The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, TIME, and GoodReads. Nor has it stopped ‘Coda’s” Sian Heder from signing on to direct the adaptation for Paramount Pictures, according to Variety in May, 2024.
Whether you choose to join us in person or via Zoom, we would love to have you with us. Please email us at shalomsanmiguel@gmail.org by Thursday, November 5 to let us know you’ll be attending. We will get back to you with the Zoom credentials.
For those joining in person, we all bring a dish, snack, dessert or beverage to enjoy. We spend our first half hour chatting and catching up and begin the book talk at 2:30.
