Every Lunar New Year’s Eve, Chinese families get together for a traditional meal. The traditional Chinese New Year foods symbolize prosperity, longevity, family unity, and abundance in the year ahead. Dishes like Dumplings (wealth), Whole Fish/Chicken (abundance/completeness), Longevity Noodles (long life), Nian Gao (progress), Tang Yuan (reunion), and auspicious fruits like Oranges/Tangerines (gold/luck) are on each family table.
Class Description:
Learn the origins of the Chinese New Year celebration, review the basic Asian pantry, different condiments, sauces, different dried foods, noodles, and Asian produce.
Practice cutting methods, make sauces and slurries and learn wok techniques.
Learn how to prepare a Chinese New Year dinner for your family.
The class will be 2-1/2 hours which will include introduction to the class topic and review of recipes. Class will then prepare and cook 3 dishes: Vegetable Spring Rolls, Steamed Fish with Ginger and Scallions (served with White Rice), and Long Life Noodles, all to be shared as a group meal at the end of the class.
Please bring an apron and at least one knife you are comfortable using.
