Living With the Abayudaya Jews of Uganda
Lifelong journalist Lorne Mallin reveals the unique Jewish community of the Abayudaya in
Eastern Uganda. He lived in the village of Nabugoye, home of the community’s main synagogue,
and taught in their schools. Learn how the Abayudaya sprang from a military chieftain’s
self-conversion in 1919, quickly grew and then suffered under the dictator Idi Amin,
only to re-emerge.
Lorne Mallin lived in Uganda 2009-10 and continues to support Abayudaya children with
Chanting & Chocolate events in Vancouver BC .
