Our intangible gifts: caring hearts, encouraging words, listening ears, checking in and coordinating for overwhelmed people get us so much closer to how our ancestors created community and were there for each other.

Our community has tremendous potential to be there for each other and weave a strong social net where everyone is cared about. This doesn't take any money, but rather a desire to share kindness.

Our single senior support concept began in March this year. We had two public meetings full of great ideas shared by our community. We know we can't possibly pursue every great idea, and we know there are endless ways to create community. Our first two meetings helped us refine our mission into a few key areas that everyone can play a part in:

Safeguarding check-ins

Neighborhood socializing

Visiting people in need (medical settings or people unable to get out)

Take note: while the original idea is primarily for single seniors, younger disabled folks living alone still need a community surrounding them. And so do people with a partner who has cognitive decline or serious medical issues.

In creating our modern version of a village, we recreate rich traditions that worked well for people who came before us, being there for each other. Sharing kindness and connection leads to longer, happier lives, and we mobilize to get people the help they need.

We'd love for many more people to join us, so that each neighborhood in SMA has a thriving community that regularly gets together, and so we can weave a strong, caring community.
